Illustrator Coordinator 

The Illustrator Coordinator is part of the Regional Team and creates opportunities for Illinois’ illustrators.

—Create community and outreach among Illinois’ Illustrators and connection with the wider artistic community and storytelling partners.

—Oversee 2 Illustrator Networks and organize event(s), such as speakers and other workshops, for Illinois illustrators.

—Create illustrator opportunities at Regional Events like Prairie Writers’ & Illustrators’ Day and/or online at Illinois Interactive.

—Spearhead making all online images accessible to the visually impaired.

—Facilitate the SCBWI-IL Illustrator Mentorship

—Facilitate the design and production of regional promotion items like the #ReadLocalILLINOIS annual poster.

—Shares responsibility with the rest of the Regional Team in all aspects of leadership, in addition to setting the visual tone both online and in print, meeting regularly via Zoom.

—Enjoys free membership for their volunteer term in addition to free attendance at an annual SCBWI International Conference, provided by the home office.

PAL and Published Coordinator

The PAL & Published Coordinator creates community among and opportunity for all SCBWI-Illinois’ published members, including illustrators, authors and translators, both PAL & FULL members. Part of the PAL & Published Team along with the Food For Thought Coordinators. A published candidate is preferred but not required.

—On behalf of the Regional Team, initiates outreach and connection with the wider literacy community and Illinois organizations like AISLE, Illinois Reading Council, creating a SCBWI-IL presence at those conventions.

—Spearheads the #ReadLocalILLINOIS program, overseeing all aspects of the website, blog, poster and ambassador programs and hosting at least one event per year like #ReadALOUDIllinois.

—Focuses on promoting the myriad resources that SCBWI-IL storytellers can provide to schools, libraries and bookstores, collaborating with the Regional Team to build a bridge between Illinois storytellers and educators throughout the state.

—Enjoys free membership for their volunteer term provided by the Illinois region in addition to free attendance at SCBWI-IL Fall Conference.

Equity & Inclusion Team Chairperson

The Equity & Inclusion Team Chairperson creates community among and opportunity for all SCBWI-Illinois’ illustrators, authors and translators from underrepresented communities.

—Initiates outreach and connection with the wider #kidlit communities that celebrate diversity, working to collaborate on opportunities for BIPOC and other underrepresented #kidlit creators in Illinois.

—Steers equity and inclusion programs within the Region, overseeing the E & I Team and coordinating with the team on all aspects, including the Equity & Inclusion Team webpage, Many Voices Prize, Diverse New Member Pathway, the Many Voices Work-in-Progress Mentorship,  and The Prairie Wind’s Voices of Change column.  

—Works closely with the Regional Team advising on policy and language to dismantle systemic barriers within our Region and create a more equitable and inclusive culture for all.

—Enjoys free membership for their volunteer term provided by the Illinois region in addition to free attendance at SCBWI-IL Fall Conference.
