CONNECTED CRAFT SESSION DESCRIPTIONS

GETTING TO KNOW YOUR MAIN CHARACTER THROUGH REVISION with Adria Goetz
(60 minutes, recorded.  View from August 14 through August 21)

Your main character is the captain of your book’s ship, so they need to have a clear direction to guide your story. They need to be layered, interesting, and pop off the page. This workshop will go over the key emotional beats your character should hit in order to craft a fleshed out character arc that will grip a reader for the duration of a story. We will discuss characterization, voice, and fun writing exercises you can use to get to know your protagonist better.

REVISING FICTIONAL WORLDS with Erin Siu
(60 minutes, recorded.  View from August 14 through August 21)

World-building is the essence of any fantasy, historical, or science fiction novel, and it’s what gives a story its sense of place in all genres. Strong world-building immerses your reader, helps them understand why and how things work in your fictional world, and provides details that situate your characters. This workshop will go over things to consider when revising your world, strategies and tools for creative world-building, and writing exercises to help you decide what to include and what to edit out when introducing your setting.
