Learn how to reach new readers and reconnect with old fans in a panel discussion with independent bookseller Nicole Brinkley and marketing director Lisa DiSarro. From handselling to BookTok’ing, there are many ways to boost interest in your backlist titles. Nicole and Lisa share their insights from decades of experience in the children’s publishing world.

Nicole Brinkley has short hair and loves dragons. The rest changes without notice. Named a “Star” by Publishers Weekly, Nicole is an award-winning independent bookseller and the manager of Oblong Books in Rhinebeck, NY. She currently sits on the American Bookseller Association’s advisory council for general booksellers and the ABA’s advisory council for children’s booksellers.

Nicole is also the creator and host of Misshelved, a podcast entering its fourth season that features booksellers across America in conversation with beloved and bestselling authors. Literary agent Jennifer Laughran describes Nicole as “a tireless wearer of many hats who handsells like a magician.” Connect with Nicole on her website or Instagram.

Lisa DiSarro is the Senior Director of Marketing at HarperCollins Children’s Books. With more than 20 years of experience in children’s book marketing, she has worked with award-winning, high-profile authors such as Chris Van Allsburg, Lois Lowry, Kwame Alexander, and Linda Sue Park.

Lisa can provide unique perspectives on marketing from her previous roles as an educator, bookseller, and sales representative. She thinks that the best part of her job is sharing great books with as many people as possible.

A Thousand NO’s with DJ Corchin

DJ Corchin is an author and illustrator who grew up outside of Chicago, IL. He attended DePaul University and received his Bachelors of Music Education.

After graduating, he was cast as a feature performer in the Tony and Emmy Award-Winning Broadway show, “BLAST” to play multiple instruments including riding a unicycle while playing the trombone.
It was talking to kids as part of the show’s educational promotional group and becoming a high school band director that he gathered stories from all over the country which evolved into The Band Nerds Book Series.

DJ, with a life-long love of kid lit, began writing and self-publishing picture books after an encounter with writer, John Hughes who taught him he was a writer the moment he put pen to paper.
In 2019, Sourcebooks acquired DJ’s entire self-published library. The deal was featured in Publishers Weekly. His debut picture book with Sourcebooks, A Thousand NO’s, illustrated by Dan Dougherty launched to wonderful reviews and won the Eric Hoffer Award Winner for Best Children’s Book. Since then Sourcebooks has published The I Feel… Children’s Series, The Band Nerds Book Series, Do You Speak Fish?, and If You See A Unicorn, It Is Not Yours To Keep with many more to come.
He writes and draws from his home in Chicago, IL where he lives with family.
