WOW WRITTEN MANUSCRIPT CRITIQUE: Preliminary Feedback
— You’ll submit a work-in-progress for written critique to one of our industry professionals, returned in advance of the weekend.
— Your assigned industry professional will respond to your work via SCBWI Gold form more than a month before the event begins, giving you time to revise.
— Attendees may request to be assigned to our editor or our agent. Requests are made during registration and are considered but not guaranteed.
— Your revisions will be due to your peer critique group and industry professional 2 weeks before the event begins.
WOW Written Manuscript Critique Guidelines
Digital formatting requirements for your single Word document or PDF file are as follows.
—The only format for critique that is allowed to have images included as part of the submission is the GRAPHIC NOVEL format. All other formats will be text only.
—If your file is text only, please format it as a Word document.
—FOR GRAPHIC NOVELS ONLY: If your file INCLUDES IMAGES, please format it as a PDF file no larger than 20MG; image format must conform to 8.5 x 11 inches.
All manuscripts: 10 Pages total maximum.
—8.5 by 11 inches, 1-inch margins, 12-point standard font, 1-inch margins, double spaced (for POETRY, see below).
—Your name, e-mail, ms title, format (picture book, middle grade, YA, graphic novel, etc.) AND genre (romance, mystery, biography, etc.) must be at the top of the first page.
—No title page is necessary; text may start immediately after the identifying information.
—No introduction letter.
—Illustrations are permitted only for GRAPHIC NOVELS, see below.
—Name your file with the naming convention LAST_first
—Name your REVISED file – due July 31 – with the naming convention LAST_first_REVISED
Formats for Critique: If your work-in-progress format is a…
—Picture Book: ONE picture book manuscript only, please. Your file may include up to (10) pages maximum from a manuscript.
—Novel: FIRST (10) pages of the ms (even if this cuts off mid chapter); your optional synopsis may be single-spaced but must be contained within your 10 pages total.
—Poetry: Includes rhyming picture books, novels in verse, and stand-alone poetry collections. Poetry submissions should conform to the picture book and novel guidelines above and are allowed up to (10) pages; however, poems may be single spaced with a double space between stanzas, per industry standards. Stand-alone collections (i.e., a group of poems intended to be published as one book) must have a page break at the end of each poem.
—Graphic Novel: Your submission should include a one-page synopsis (which may be single-spaced) plus up to (09) pages of finished art, standard script pages or a consecutive combination thereof.
Written Manuscript Critique Upload Deadline: May 29
—PLEASE SEND YOUR DIGITAL SUBMISSION IN EARLY if you are unfamiliar with Dropbox. You will receive a confirmation e-mail when your upload is complete.
— All manuscripts for critique must be uploaded to the WOW Dropbox by 11:29 PM on May 29 per guidelines above. No exceptions. No mailed or emailed submissions.
— If your manuscript is not received in the correct format and on deadline, your registration will be cancelled. Your fee will be refunded less a $50 cancellation fee.
— Manuscripts, and our faculty’s time-frame in critiquing them, are an integral part of our WOW Wired Weekend.
Revised Manuscript Upload Deadline: July 31, 11:59pm
— All manuscripts for critique must be uploaded to the WOW Dropbox by 11:59 PM on July 31 per guidelines above. No exceptions. No mailed or emailed submissions.
— Revised manuscripts should use the naming convention LAST_first_REVISED
