Diversity, Equity & Inclusion

Enjoying the event

The Barbara Belding Lodge at Brewster Creek is barrier-free.

If you have a disability and require a support person in order to be able to take advantage of this event, please register yourself AND email the Registrar to ask for assistance in registering your support person. Space limitations require us to register support personnel; however, there is no fee for registration or accompanying meal.

If you need any special assistance to enjoy the day’s programming, please email the Registrar to ask for assistance for your particular needs.

Choose Your Pronoun

In an effort to be more inclusive, SCBWI has added the option to choose your pronoun for your conference badge by which you would like to be identified. You may make this selection during event registration in the GENERAL INFORMATION fields.  The PRONOUN field appears under LAST NAME.  Click on the arrow to make your selection or to create a custom pronoun.  Selecting your pronoun is optional.

Book Drive for SCBWI-IL Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Outreach

All children deserve to see themselves in their favorite stories. To further this mission, we are asking our generous Spring Thaw attendees to bring a new book for donation. Please consider donating a book  by a diverse storyteller.  SCBWI-IL will use collected books as giveaways and prizes at its booth at community literary and back-to-school book fairs and festivals, many with a diversity focus.  SCBWI-IL uses the definition of “diverse” as provided by the We Need Diverse Books’ definition of “diversity.”
