Manuscript Contest (SCBWI MEMBERS ONLY)

The Manuscript Contest will be judged by our two faculty agents and limited to the first 50 participants to register for this Extra. Manuscripts must be submitted digitally by September 29 and conform to the guidelines (please see the GUIDELINES page on this event site). Because of the limited number of entries, and the unique opportunity to get your work before an agent, writers may not register for both the contest and a manuscript critique nor a peer-group critique.

Illustration Contest (SCBWI MEMBERS ONLY)

Illustrators are invited to create an image based on the prompt and limited to the first 50 participants to register for this Extra. Art will be judged by Ellice Lee and Vanessa Brantley Netwon. Art must be submitted by September 29 and conform to the guidelines (please see the GUIDELINES page on this event site). Because of the limited number of entries, and the unique opportunity to get your work before an art director, illustrators may not register for both the contest and an illustration critique nor a peer-group critique.

Portfolio Showcase (SCBWI MEMBERS ONLY)

Illustrators are invited to virtually display their portfolios.  Portfolios must be submitted by September 29 and conform to the guidelines (please see the GUIDELINES page on this event site).

LIVE Faculty-Moderated Peer Critique Groups (only 9 attendees each peer critique group; 90 minutes)

Peer group critique sessions led by a PAL member. Limited to the first 36 participants–9 in each Critique Group– to register for this Extra. Please see the Guidelines page for instructions. Manuscript must be submitted in advance and will be shared by moderator during event. Because of the limited number of entries, peer group participants may not register for either contest nor a manuscript critique.

10 for 10 Ask Me Anything Session
1:1 Zoom Conversation: $10.00 
(SCBWI MEMBERS & Non-Members invited)

You may have noticed that Illinois has more than its fair share of award-winning authors & illustrators! This is an opportunity to pick the brain of our PAL faculty. During the dates of the conference, an Zoom conversation will be set up for you to have a 10-minute one on one discussion with a PAL faculty member to ask anything and everything you’ve always wanted to know, all for only $10. No pre-submitted nor written feedback. 

 

Manuscript Extras

All manuscripts must be submitted by September 29 and must conform to the guidelines (see the event Guideline page). Manuscripts not received by the deadline or not conforming to the guidelines forfeit this opportunity and are not eligible for refund.

 

Written Manuscript Critique: $45.00 (SCBWI MEMBERS ONLY)

Participants will submit a manuscript by September 29 and will receive a written critique from one of our faculty editors.

 

1:1  Zoom & Written Manuscript Critique: $65.00 (SCBWI MEMBERS ONLY; not recorded)

Participants will submit a manuscript by September 29 and will receive a written critique from one of our three faculty editors, PLUS a 10-minute 1:1 discussion with your editor via zoom.

 

Illustrator Extras 

All portfolios and dummies must be submitted by September 29 and must conform to the guidelines (see the event Guideline page). Materials not received by the deadline or not conforming to the guidelines forfeit this opportunity and are not eligible for refund.

 

Written Portfolio Review: $45.00 (SCBWI MEMBERS ONLY)

Participants will submit their portfolios and receive a written review from either one of our faculty Art Directors or Author/Illustrator Vanessa Brantley Newton.

Participants will submit their digitally-formatted dummy by September 29, and receive a written critique from either one of our faculty Art Directors or Author-Illustrator Vanessa Brantley Newton. PLUS a 10-minute 1:1 discussion with via zoom.
